Contract Length – 6 months – possibility of permanent role being offered to successful candidate
Location – Clyde – Faslane, Helensburgh, Scotland
Security Clearance Required – Candidate must be UK Nationals and hold active SC Security Clearance

Job Purpose

Provide technical engineering support and direction to JPTs for work packages under the waterline when platforms are afloat. Support the development of new In Water Maintenance and Repair (IWMAR) techniques through innovation initiatives targeted at Design Authority Requirements categorised as “Docking Dependant”.  Support IWE as Fleet Operations underwater compliance authority for work packages under the waterline.

Coordinating IWE contractors and providing engineering oversight for IWE work packages. Supporting continuous improvement processes of IWMAR technologies and processes.

Facilitating and enabling the functions and output of the IWE Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the technical engineering support and direction to JPTs IWE work packages.    
  • Ensure that all tasks are carried out in accordance with cost, time and quality requirements. 
  • Ensure correct Quality Documentation is reviewed and called for at commencement and throughout each project activity. 
  • Management of subcontractors when required to complete areas of the work package. 
  • Responsible for Fleet Operations adherence to Babcock Clyde Diving Safety Management Systems.
  • Arrange and chair look ahead meetings, at regular intervals, for IWE Work packages for identified platform.
  • Report to the IWE Manager on the progress of work packages and highlight any issues as required.   
  • Actively lead IWE capability development and innovation initiatives. Integrate new IWMAR capabilities and establish as normal   practice.
Job Requirements:
  • Works on a number of different tasks on a daily basis or can be involved in complex tasking taking several days or weeks to complete.  
  • Responsible for aiding the delivery of projects ranging from 500K-5M during maintenance periods ranging from 4-50 weeks.
  • Providing technical engineering direction to JPTs.   
  • Projects often operate continuously on a 24/7 basis as and when necessary and agreed. 
  • This may include support to RN vessels abroad. For DRP’s, engineering guidance and direction may be required for tasks at short notice requiring rapid set up and control of Base, Sub Con or both resource to drive the output.
  • Required to solve challenging technical problems across many specialist subject matters i.e. identifying underwater risks, providing solutions to underwater engineering challenges.
  • Review and update documentation and participates in extensive engineering discussions across different disciplines.
  • Develop detailed In Water Requirements documents to capture details of IWMAR work packages methods and processes.
  • Analyses situations, events or processes to identify shortfalls and weaknesses in working practices.
  • Develop and implement recommendations to address shortfalls and deliver change and continuous improvement.
  • Required to identify, develop and integrate new and innovative methods for completing docking dependant work packages afloat.
  • Prior to the commencement of novel IWE work packages ensure that safe systems of work have been outlined and discussed with the relevant sections, authorising engineers and approved persons. This will ensure that the safety of Babcock personnel on IWE tasks is assessed.
  • Liaise directly with Babcock Diving SME and diving contractor to support the enablement of diving work packages.
  • Largely unsupervised with a high degree of autonomy to ensure tasks identified as IWE work packages and supporting tasks are completed within BMPs and DRPs to safety, quality and time.
  • Develop Babcock procedures for IWE work packages to enable delivery sections/JPTs to complete docking dependant items afloat.
  • Decisions are made regularly with respect to adopting the appropriate course of action when applying Company processes.
  • Solutions, advice and timescales in the form of project schedules provided to Project teams for IWE work packages.
  • Identify and engage with key IWE work package stakeholders to ensure risks are mitigated against, and highlighted where appropriate.

Qualifications:
  • HNC in Engineering, Apprenticeship in Engineering or equivalent experience    
  • APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ)
  • Project Estimating Product System 9PEPS) Advanced
  • Nuclear Submarine Quality Assurance Course (NSQAC)
