We have an excellent Chief Engineer opportunity for a global Aerospace and Defence company. You will play an important role guiding, developing and mentoring the technical community within the sector

Structured around product management teams, providing leadership and direction to the engineering technical community within the sector focussing on ensuring our products achieve their design requirements along with safety and regulatory compliance.

The Sector Chief Engineer will work alongside their counterparts in other sectors and Design Integrity to improve the approach to governance across our products and works with the Capability function and external customers to realise product route maps that maximise Commonality, Modularity and Reuse to minimise development timescales and risk and introduce products to market more effectively.  

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Provide technical leadership within the Sector, developing the SDA, DA and Domain Specialist community
• Ensure (through the SDA community) that our products are developed and certified with a balanced approach to risk, cost, quality and timescales
• Ensure best practise in governance across our products and services alongside Design Integrity
• Lead and oversee critical technical investigations
• Supports Capability Function and Functional Disciplines on future product routemaps to develop an affordable future product pipeline that minimises development risk and timescales
• Chair Design Reviews and act as a conduit for improving our engineering methods through feeding back lessons into the design processes
• Support customer engagement on business winning opportunities as a technical expert for the sector’s products

 WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You really must have:

• Strong technical experience with Engineering or Scientific Degree (or equivalent)
• Experience as a Design Authority for complex electronic products, preferably in the military domain although adjacent sectors such as automotive or rail
• Proven leadership experience and a desire to develop the next generation of Technical Experts
• Strong stakeholder management
• A willingness to challenge the status quo and desire to help improve the engineering activities
• A strong understanding and experience of all stages of the Product Life Cycle and entry into production

It would be nice if you had:

• A background in airborne Electronic Warfare
• Experience in MAA certification
• Experience in Product Management
