We have an exciting opportunity for a JAVA Software Engineer to join a dedicated Software Engineering team within the Integrated Sensing and Protection (ISP) line of business You will work as part of a small dedicated team, following an Agile Scrum Software development methodology to develop and support a variety of applications deployed on a large multi-server configuration, in particular around the domains of railways and air traffic control.  

 Responsibilities: 

• You will have an Inherent interest in exploring and developing new software techniques, along with the use of new tools and frameworks, whilst maintaining a balanced approach as to what to take forward into product development at higher maturity.
• The type of software developed will range from back end (database storage) through mid-tier (web services and data processing logic) to front end (user interfaces).
• You will be part of the on call out of hours support team which is managed on a rotational basis and is subject to an additional remuneration in line with the company policy.  Training will be given in the initial 3 months before taking on this aspect of the role.
• Contribute to the high-level requirements capture and concept design in order to enable the requirements applicable to software to be well-derived. In some cases this may involve direct liaison with system customers to elicit requirements and drive this process.
