This position is located at Basingstoke with regular visits to Corsham. In addition, there will be a requirement to travel to meetings to other locations within the UK Estate.

Summary:

A Defence Digital Programme Delivery team is seeking a suitably experienced and skilled Test and Acceptance Manager to operate within the Programme team in assisting with the delivery of ICT Project across Defence which is transforming ageing legacy systems into layered services thus providing a more joined up ways of working for the MOD community. They will specifically undertake and execute appropriate test design and perform exploratory testing.

Specific responsibilities through the life of the Programme include:

  • Lead on the planning, design, management, execution and reporting of trials, factory acceptance test (FAT), system acceptance tests (SAT), business pilots (BP), and user acceptance tests (UAT).
  • Collaborate with delivery teams and determine the testability of functional and non-functional requirements
  • Take a business and operational view when analysing the system under test.
  • Undertake Functional testing of ICT services e.g. design and execute test cases using standard testing techniques for different business scenarios for a feature, working with others in the team.
  • Undertake Non-functional testing of IC services e.g. Apply non-functional testing techniques for test scenarios to identify defects including non-functional tests others have written and know the processes to do so. You will understand a range of standard non-functional testing techniques.
  • Apply Technical knowledge skills and experience using a range of tools and techniques for test automation. Demonstrable technical attributes will be used.
  • Undertake Test analysis to identify simple patterns and trends including investigating problems and opportunities in existing processes and can contribute to recommending solutions to these.
  • Manage Trials and Tests working with stakeholders to identify objectives and potential benefits.  

Test & Acceptance Activities to be Undertaken:

Trials

  • Lead on the planning, design, management, execution and reporting of trials, factory acceptance test (FAT), system acceptance tests (SAT), business pilots (BP), and user acceptance tests (UAT).
  • Use appropriate testing tools and techniques and conforming to agreed process standards and industry specific regulations.
  • Run systems trials, test and acceptance events. Where required, produce consolidated analysis of success and failure of the trials against the contracted outputs.
  • Make recommendations on the acceptability of new services or sub-services into Live.
  • Represent the Business and User community at Business Pilots.
  • Brief the User Community in advance of the Business Pilots and conduct demonstrations to relevant User organisational representatives to explain the technical mechanisms of the trial events.

Testing

  • Lead on the planning, design, management, execution and reporting of system acceptance tests, including security testing, in fixed, deployed, development, and integration environments.
  • Devising acceptance test cases/scenarios from acceptance criteria.
  • Take responsibility for integrity of testing and acceptance activities and coordinate the execution of these activities.
  • Provide authoritative advice and guidance on any aspect of test planning and execution.
  • Applying SAFe/Agile Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) of systems testing.

Acceptance

  • Manage and enable formal acceptance of systems, products or services.
  • Manage the process to obtain formal confirmation that service acceptance criteria have been met and that the service provider is ready to operate the new service when it has been deployed.
  • Engage with solution/technical architects and project managers, to assure product quality against agreed service acceptance criteria.
  • Creating measurable acceptance criteria related to requirements, features, and user stories.
  • Address non-functional requirements (NFR) as well as functional requirements.

Service Reviews

  • Conduct Service Readiness Reviews (SRR) with Project, Business and Supplier representatives

User Experience (UX)

  • Lead on the validation of systems, products or services, to assure that the stakeholder and organisational requirements have been met, required practice has been followed, and systems in use continue to meet organisational and user needs.
  • Undertake iterative assessments (through Development, System Test and Integration to final live implementation) of system effectiveness, efficiency, user satisfaction, and accessibility to measure or improve the usability of new or existing processes, with the intention of achieving optimum levels of product or service usability.
  • Manage user experience evaluation of systems, products or services, to assure that the usability and accessibility requirements have been met, required practice has been followed, and systems in use continue to meet organisational and user needs.
  • Advise on what to evaluate and the type of evaluation to use and the extent of user involvement required. Work iteratively with design and delivery teams to ensure that the results of evaluations are understood and acted upon by designers, developers, and delivery managers.
  • Advise on achievement of required usability and accessibility levels of specific designs or prototypes.
  • Facilitating exploratory testing by users to discover unexpected behaviours.
  • Model Office Testing to simulate real life operational usage by users and administrators.

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as single point of contact for all stakeholders and locations participating in fixed and deployed systems trials, test and acceptance events.
  • Align customer, programme, supplier, user and test and trials organisations to encourage effective and efficient collaboration.
  • Considering functionality, performance, and other characteristics from a stakeholder or usage perspective and how they deliver improved ways of working, business efficiencies and planned business benefits.
This position is located at Basingstoke with regular visits to Corsham. In addition, there will be a requirement to travel to meetings to other locations within the UK Estate.  
Live and Active DV Security Clearance is required for this role
