Primary Purpose
The primary purpose of the 8 Dock SADP(F) Design & Safety Manager is to oversee the development of a justification for undertaking Survey and Docking Periods of fuelled submarines in 8 Dock.

Accountabilities
The 8 Dock SADP(F) Design & Safety Manager is accountable to the 8 Dock SADP(F) Project Manager & Head of Engineering for design development and approval of Devonport Royal Dockyard Limited (DRDL) site facilities and systems and for the delivery of the design & safety technical outputs to schedule, cost and quality.

Principal Tasks and Responsibilities
Delivery of an 8 Dock SADP(F) Safety Case to meet an agreed set of User, DA, Licensee and other Business Requirements.
Ensuring Babcock / Design & Nuclear Safety Processes are implemented accordingly throughout the design development and the Design & Nuclear Safety technical aspects are suitably integrated to provide an 8 Dock SADP(F) capability.
Technical Approval of Design & Nuclear Safety documentation.
Ensure that Configuration Management of technical documentation is adequately recorded and kept up to date as the project progresses. Ensure that all changes are appropriately configured and the Reference Design maintained as required.
Liaise with SI Chief Engineer and other project DSMs to ensure a consistent technical approach is adopted across the programme and provide support / feedback on the development of Design & Nuclear Safety Process & Standards.
Ensuring that System and Sub-system requirements are suitably derived by the respective Design & Nuclear Safety Managers and that the substantiation thereof is suitable and adequate for acceptance in line with design maturity through the staged design development. This will include:
• Functional User Requirements;
• Safety Functional Requirements;
• Statutory Requirements;
• Through Life / DA Requirements;
• Business Requirements.
Assist the development of an integrated Design & Nuclear Safety delivery programme ensuring that interfaces / dependencies between the two are adequately resolved to achieve timescales as specified by the 8 Dock SADP(F) Project Manager.
Promote Nuclear / Conventional Industry best practice to ensure that technical packages comply with Regulatory body expectations.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements
Academic: Batchelor’s STEM Degree or equivalent
Nuclear: Nuclear Introductory Course (NIC)
Competencies Design or Nuclear Safety Process Management
Awareness of Design Nuclear Class 1 (or other high hazard) safety Substantiation
Awareness of Cat A Nuclear Safety Case Leadership
Awareness of Reactor Performance & Nuclear Safety
Transverse technical skills
Team Player
Leadership in Engineering, Design & Safety
Senior Management Leadership Skills
